Caesars Reveals Which Two Casinos Will Reopen First in Vegas

While it is still unknown when exactly Las Vegas casinos will be given the nod to reopen, Caesars Entertainment Corp. said on Thursday that Caesars Palace and the Flamingo Las Vegas will be the first properties in its portfolio to resume operations.

Casino resorts and other non-essential businesses across Nevada (and the rest of the US) have been closed since mid-March.

But as states are looking to ease some of the restrictions implemented to help abort the advance of the dangerous coronavirus, casino operators are releasing plans about the pending reopening of their properties.

Caesars said Thursday that gaming and hospitality operations will resume at Caesars Palace and the Flamingo “on the date and time for reopening specified by the State of Nevada.” The company also noted that it would fully comply with all reopening directives set out by Gov. Steve Sisolak, the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and public health authorities.

Earlier this month the company released its reopening plan which details enhanced health and safety protocols aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus at its properties and protecting employees and guests.

The enhanced health and safety protocols include more frequent cleaning and sanitizaion of the company’s properties. In addition, Caesars said that it would implement a health screening program for all of its employees to determine which of them should be tested for Covid-19 before returning to work.

Staff members will all wear face masks provided by the company. Guests will too be provided with masks and will be encouraged, but not required, to wear them while at Caesars’ properties.

Both Caesars Palace and the Flamingo, when reopened, will offer lodging, dining options, and access to outdoor pool areas. Guests will also have access to the properties’ gaming floors and will be able to play both slot machines and table games.

All of the offerings that will be available will operate in “a manner consistent with physical distancing guidelines.”

Caesars said that it has decided to suspend fees for paid self-parking when it reopens its Las Vegas properties.

The company said that it expects its Harrah’s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino and the casino floor at LINQ Hotel & Casino to be the next properties it will reopen, “with timing based on customer demand.”

It also expects several retail and dining outlets along the LINQ Promenade and the High Roller Observation Wheel to reopen soon.

Caesars’ live entertainment venues, bars, spas, buffets, and valet parking services will not resume immediately, the company announced Thursday.

Commenting on the pending reopenings, Caesars CEO Tony Rodio said that “reopening Las Vegas in a phased approach will be a significant milestone” for the company as the US continues to emerge “from this necessary closure period.”

Mr. Rodio also expressed hopes that with the nation’s continued progress on addressing the Covid-19 emergency and business conditions, they will be able to reopen more of their properties and bring back more of their staff members “as it is appropriate to do so.”
