Online gambling giant bet365 has inked a five-year lease agreement to take more than 25,000 square feet of office space in the heart of Manchester to further expand its presence in the city, news emerged this week.
The space is located in Core, a recently renovated and modernized office building located on 30 Brown Street, Manchester, known to be the “historic office core” of the city.
Bet365’s new office space was let by CBRE in Manchester, acting on behalf of Boultbee Brooks Real Estate. With the arrival of the major online gambling operator, the new office building is now fully let.
News about the online gambling powerhouse’s expanded presence in Manchester emerge several months after it announced the establishment of a DevOps team, part of which is located namely in that city.
The company’s DevOps team was formed to bring together operational teams from several departments, including software release, IT operations, service delivery, and problem management. The team was tasked with ramping up automation across a number of fields, boost software development, reduce delays in the release of new applications, and improve site reliability.
At Core, bet365 will be occupying the final three floors of the building.
Commenting on news about the gambling operator’s arrival, James Whitcher, Asset Management Director at Boultbee Brooks Real Estate, said that “securing bet365 against stiff competition is testament to the quality of the Core development and the whole project team who worked tirelessly to deliver an impressive transformation of a previously unloved building.”
Manchester Expansion
While bet365’s headquarters and main technology hub are located in Stoke-on-Trent, the company has also expanded significantly its presence in Manchester since 2016 when it opened a satellite technology office in that city.
In 2018, the gambling operator created 100 new jobs to further grow its Manchester operation. And as mentioned above, late last year, it located some of its DevOps team in that city.
Of bet365 becoming a Core occupant, Jonathan Cook, Associate Director at CBRE Manchester, said this week that they are “delighted to secure such a high profile company for the remaining space at Core” and that following its comprehensive refurbishment, “Core has become one of Manchester’s most popular and sought after office buildings, appealing to tenants seeking a mix of modern office suites and collaborative work spaces.”
Bet365 is one of the world’s largest, if not the largest, providers of online sports betting services. The company’s latest financial accounts, published in late 2019, showed that it had generated nearly £3 billion in revenue in the 53 weeks to March 31, 2019, up 10% year-on-year. Operating profit grew 12% during the reported period to £767.1 million.
The company put down its latest financial results to bookmaker-friendly FIFA World Cup results, reduced direct costs, and an additional week of trading activity.
