World of Hyatt rewards members can now earn and redeem loyalty points at Rio Las Vegas.
Rio Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, formerly the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, is undergoing a $340 million property renovation. The off-Strip casino’s owner announced in 2021 that it would ditch Caesars Entertainment as its hotel operator in favor of Hyatt Hotels Corporation.
Dreamscape, a subsidiary of New York-based real estate investment firm Imperial Companies, acquired the Rio from Caesars in December 2019 for $516.3 million. The timing couldn’t have been worse for the buyer, as only months later Las Vegas went on lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dreamscape weathered the coronavirus by extending its operating lease with Caesars through last fall. The Caesars contract ended Oct. 31.
The Rio’s two-phase renovation began last August, with Dreamscape officials telling Casino.org today that the first phase is expected to be finished and ready for guests this fall.
Rio and Hyatt Team Up
The new Rio, at least the first phase, will open this fall. When it does, guests will find the 1,501-room Ipanema Tower completely remodeled.
A Dreamscape release revealed that extensive upgrades and enhancements have been made to each room as well as the arrival area, resort exterior, lobby, casino floor, sportsbook, restaurants, meeting rooms, and outdoor pool complex. The Rio’s Ipanema guestrooms will become a Destination by Hyatt hotel, with World of Hyatt members earning points for their stay.
We’re proud to collaborate with Rio Hotel & Casino on this transformational project to revitalize the iconic hotel as a Destination by Hyatt hotel in a key market like Las Vegas,” said David Tarr, senior vice president of development of Hyatt Americas. “Destination by Hyatt hotels are individual at heart and embody the true spirit of the destination, and Rio Hotel & Casino will be no exception.”
Hyatt rewards members, effective immediately, earn points for all stays at the Rio. The casino is also offering a 500-point bonus for each qualifying night at the resort through June 30.
Dreamscape Founder Eric Birnbaum said bringing in Hyatt “opens the door” for the property to welcome in “an entirely new group of travelers.”
Phase two of the Rio redo will encompass the Masquerade Tower’s 1,012 guestrooms being fully redesigned as well as the tower’s associated public areas. The tower will also become a Destination by Hyatt property.
Partnership Could Pay Off for Rio
The Rio struggled for years before Caesars found a buyer for the property that was in desperate need of a substantial makeover.
During the last couple of World Series of Poker tournaments Caesars held at the casino, numerous players voiced complaints about the aging property. A string of crimes in the resort’s parking lot added to the worry.
The new Rio’s alignment with Hyatt could be a winning bet.
MGM Resorts severed ties with World of Hyatt last July. The end of the more than decade-long partnership meant Hyatt members could no longer redeem their points at a major Las Vegas casino hotel.
Though the Rio is not on the Strip but about a mile west of the main drag, it will be World of Hyatt members’ only overnight choice in Las Vegas that has a casino. Hyatt rewards points can also be redeemed in Southern Nevada at Hyatt Place Las Vegas near the airport and Hyatt Place at Silverton Village.
