Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment has selected Betfred USA Sports as the operator of a sports betting facility within its planned Mohegan Sun Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas under a strategic alliance announced this week by the two companies.
Betfred USA Sports is the US division of British bookmaker Betfred. The subsidiary was created last year as part of the sports betting operator’s strategy to expand across the nascent US wagering market.
The Betfred sportsbook at Mohegan Sun Casino will be part of a 60,000-square-foot gaming floor that will be located within Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The sports betting facility will feature a state-of-the-art video wall, luxury seating, over-the-counter betting as well as self-service betting kiosks.
The partnership with Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment paves the way for the opening of Betfred’s fourth physical sportsbook in the US, following retail locations in Iowa through a partnership with Grand Falls Casino, Colorado through a partnership with Saratoga Casino Black Hawk, and Pennsylvania through a partnership with Wind Creek Casino Bethlehem.
The sports betting operator will also be able to provide digital wagering services with each of the above venues, including its future sportsbook in Las Vegas.
First Foray into Las Vegas Market to Be Great Success
Commenting on their partnership with Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment and Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, Betfred COO Mark Stebbings said that given their collaboration with these two “outstanding operators” they are confident their “first foray into the Las Vegas sportsbook market will be a great success.”
Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment Vice President of Interactive Gaming Aviram Alroy added that they are excited to be working with Betfred and that their affiliation “will introduce new and attractive competition to the Las Vegas market.”
Mr. Alroy went on to express confidence that Betfred will “create a seamless and best-in-class experience on our gaming floor, which will cater to both domestic and international visitors.”
Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is currently taking shape at the site of the former Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas. Virgin Hotels, the hospitality brand of British billionaire businessman Richard Branson, purchased the property in the spring of 2018.
The now former Hard Rock Las Vegas closed doors in early February for its eight-month transformation into Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The property is expected to open doors and welcome its first guests in the fall of 2020.
Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment was selected last year as the preferred operator of the casino portion of the resort. The partnership with Virgin Hotels marks Mohegan’s first foray into Las Vegas.
News about its partnership with Betfred emerge just days after Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment unveiled the name and logo of its first Las Vegas casino.
