The long-expected Choctaw Nation’s resort and casino, Choctaw Landing, has finally opened and started accepting bookings. This luxurious property located in Hochatown, Oklahoma, opened its doors for visitors on April 3, 2024. However, the official grand opening is scheduled for May 23, 2024.
A lot to offer:
The visitors will be able to enjoy a range of amenities, including modern conference services, as well as pool opening, concert and cultural entertainment options. All of these will be available starting in late spring 2024.
Amy Davis, the property’s General Manager, said: “There has been so much excitement around Choctaw Landing, and we are thrilled to be open to guests who are planning to stay at the resort and to those who are just interested in visiting our casino and mercantile. Choctaw Landing is located about an hour north of the Oklahoma/Texas border and we are the perfect place to getaway and unwind.”
The visitors are able to book 100 guest rooms, among which 15 are luxury suites. The conference room is placed across more than 4,300 square feet, and the hotel also contains a restaurant. On top of that, there are three different dining and bar options located in the open space.
On top of that, the resort has a fitness center and pool area that contains nine cabanas, two hot tubs, and three fire pits. There’s also an outdoor amphitheater with 125 seats.
Other amenities include a mercantile, where the visitors can purchase gifts and groceries, as well as Starbucks and a 24-pump fuel station.
The property’s casino offers 600 slot machines with various types of slots, as well as eight table games. Among them are roulette, blackjack, and poker.
Celebrating the tribe:
The whole resort highly resonates with the tribe’s culture. More than 20 tribal artists were hired to create unique art pieces for the property, and public spaces currently contain more than 40 unique pieces. On top of that, there are two large sculptures placed outside, as well as an additional 600 art pieces in guest rooms.
One of the most famous Choctaw artists, Gene Smith, worked on an interactive circular steel sculpture located on the property’s entrance. The sculpture shows Choctaw Social Dancers and the guests will get a chance to join the interactive dance and dive into the rich history of the tribe.
In total, the resort cost about $238 million, and it will provide more than 400 people with jobs. As Ok News reported, it is estimated that the region will earn $95 million from the resort.
The tribe is famous in the state because of its huge economic impact. Only in 2021, it earned $3,227,364,212, as the tribal officials announced at a press conference held on March 24, 2024, that gathered various tribal, state, county, and local officials.
Dr. Kyle Dean, an Economist for the Center for Native American Studies at Oklahoma City University, discussed the economic impact and prepared a thorough report. According to him, the tribe’s impact on both southeastern Oklahoma and the whole state is significant, since the tribe supported 20,142 jobs in 2021, and because of that the state’s residents earned around $1 billion in wages and benefits.
