On Sunday, January 16th, 2022 the finals of the 2021 – 2022 Supercopa de España featured last season’s champions in Athletic Bilbao and the current 1st – place football club of the Spanish LaLiga League in Real Madrid. Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 3 to 2 in the semi – finals of “elclásico” while Athletic Bilbao beat Atlético Madrid with a final score of 2 to 1 in order for Athletic to reach the Spanish Supercup Finals.

Unfortunately, these games had to be relocated to Saudi Arabia due to concerns over the spread of the COVID – 19 pandemic. All matches were played at in King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Tournament Results & MVP Award

Real Madrid continued to dominate the pitch as they have done all season long by crushing Athletic Bilbao with a final tally of 2 to nil. Luka Modric was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2021 – 2022 Supercopa de España. Karim Benzema performed extremely well in this Spanish football tournament too. The French national striker, Benzema, netted 2 – goals throughout “elclásico.”

Following Sunday’s match vs. Athletic Bilbao, the head coach of the Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, sarcastically yelled complaints to Modric such as, “You missed a pass, you sent the ball to the sideline!” Obviously Real Madrid does not have any on the field concerns during this season’s Spanish LaLiga League, the Champions League, and even the recent 2021 – 2022 Spanish Super Cup competitions.

Remainder of the 2021 – 2022 European Football Season

In terms of the Spanish LaLiga League Real Madrid has a fairly comfortable lead as Real Madrid is presently enjoying a 5 – point advantage over the 2nd – place club in Sevilla. In the UEFA Champions League this year Real Madrid is dominating their pool of contestants in Group D of the group stage of competition as they have a 5 – point lead there.

Other football clubs in the UEFA Champions League that may be tough competitors throughout the knockout stage playoffs include: Liverpool, Ajax Amsterdam, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Juventus. I look forward to seeing how this exciting season plays out over the course of the upcoming several months as it is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, May 28th, 2022.

You missed a pass!Real Madrid’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, sarcastically screamed towards his star player and the Spanish Super Cup MVP, Luka Modric. “You sent the ball to the sideline.”

“It’s always important to win the first title of the season,” Luka Modric emphatically explained. “But there’s still a lot more to compete for in the Copa del Rey, the Spanish league, and the Champions League. We have to keep this momentum going. We have been playing well, with a lot of confidence. This title will motivate us even more going forward.”

We can play several different ways. That’s the strength of this team,” Ancelotti goes on to say. “I enjoy watching the team play. We are strong enough to fight for all the competitions that we still have left.”
